2007 Earthfair Information

After ten years, Vashon Island Earthfair has reached a crossroads. Faced with increasing park rental fees and insurance costs, decreasing volunteerism, and level (if not falling) attendance, Island Earthfair needs to make some big changes to become successful once again.

The Earthfair Council, realizing this, considered having an alternative one-day event at a new location this summer … with visions of coming back bigger and stronger in 2008. This would allow us to focus our vision, while continuing to be one of the premier alternative-lifestyle festivals in the state.

Upon further research, this is just not doable. We are unable to find an alternate location which meets the dates we want, at a cost we can afford. We have not been able to recruit additional volunteers to assist in planning and set-up, and the current volunteers are not willing to work themselves to exhaustion like in year's past. And we have concerns about being able to attract off-islanders for a 1-day event.

For these (and other reasons), the Earthfair Council has decided to take a hiatus from the event in 2007. We will instead focus on smaller, monthly events – which will keep our name in the Vashon public-eye, continue to meet the Mission Statement of our parent organization, Vashon Earth Awareness Coalition (VEAC), and not burn-out our volunteer base. We also intend to work with other like-minded organizations to help create the Vashon of the next 20 years.

We hope that we can create a schedule which will draw in the islanders, gain more active volunteers, and help the Earthfair (and VEAC) gain greater recognition and appreciation from the locals.

Earthday Film Festival
Adopt-A-Road Program (Our Road is SW Quartermaster Drive)
Thanksgiving Community Feed
Holiday Gift Giveaway

We are seeking volunteers to help in these currently scheduled events, and to create new events which will bring recognition to Earth-friendly islanders and VEAC in general. There is much more to VEAC than just the Earthfair. We hope to bring this realization to the entire island community. Our intention is to promote and assist the locals ... not ourselves.

A BIG thank you to anyone who has been a part of Island Earthfair the first ten years. It is a well recognized event, and has seen great success over time. We fully intend to return in 2008 for another ten year run. Please consider stepping forward to assist in our current mission.
